Report chapter examining how building scale influences urban vitality
I contributed to the Preservation Green Lab's research initiative examining how building scale influences urban vitality and sustainability. The report demonstrates that established neighborhoods with a mix of older, smaller buildings perform better than districts with larger, newer structures across economic, social, and environmental measures.
I co-authored a chapter with Jeff Risom analyzing Market Street in San Francisco. Our work at Gehl Architects informed a $250 million streetscape redesign called Better Market Street. The chapter connected public life survey data to building granularity patterns, illustrating the research findings through this urban design case study.
